What is a direct Google review link?
Every business on Google Maps has a Place ID — a unique code Google uses to identify your listing. Plug that ID into Google’s review URL and you get a link that skips everything between your customer and the review box: no searching your business name, no scrolling past competitors, no hunting for the “Write a review” button. One tap and the five-star dialog is open.
The link, anatomized
https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_PLACE_IDFriction kills review requests
A customer who just said “happy to leave a review!” still has to remember, search, find, and click — and every extra step loses people. Owners who send the direct link (or put the QR where customers already are: the counter, the invoice, the job-done text) simply capture more of the reviews they’re already earning.
Reviews move local rankings
Review count, rating, and recency feed directly into how Google ranks the local map pack — a steady drip of fresh reviews is one of the few local-SEO levers a busy owner can pull in under a minute a day. Want a website that turns those reviews into booked jobs? See what we build for your industry.
How to find your Place ID
Google buries the “get more reviews” link deep inside the Business Profile dashboard, but your Place ID is public and takes about a minute to grab:
Open Google’s official Place ID Finder — it’s the interactive map near the top of Google’s Place ID documentation page.
Type your business name (add your city if the name is common) into the map’s search box and pick your listing from the suggestions.
Copy the Place ID that pops up on the map — a long code that usually starts with
ChIJ— and paste it into the generator above.
Shortcut
Already have a full google.com/maps URL for your business (from the address bar, not a shortened maps.app.goo.gl share link)? Paste the whole URL into the tool — when the URL contains a Place ID, we’ll extract it for you.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Google review link?
It’s a direct URL — https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=… — that opens the review box for your business on Google. Instead of asking customers to search for you, find your listing, and hunt for the review button, the link (or its QR code) drops them straight into the five-star dialog. Less friction means more of the people you ask actually finish the review.
Do I need a Google Business Profile to get one?
Yes — the link is keyed to your business’s Place ID, which exists once your business appears on Google Maps. If your business isn’t on Google Maps yet, claim a free Google Business Profile first (google.com/business), then come back and generate your link.
Where do I find my Place ID?
The fastest way is Google’s own Place ID Finder: open Google’s Place ID documentation page, type your business name into the embedded map’s search box, and copy the ID that appears — a long code that usually starts with “ChIJ”. You can also paste a full google.com/maps URL for your listing into this tool, and it will pull the Place ID out for you when the URL contains one.
Can I put the link or QR code on a physical sign, receipt, or business card?
Absolutely — that’s the best use of it. The QR code encodes the same review URL, so anyone who scans it with their phone camera lands directly in the review box. Print the counter card this tool generates, add the QR to invoices and receipts, or drop the link into follow-up texts and emails.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no email gate, no watermark you pay to remove. The QR code is generated in your own browser — nothing is uploaded anywhere — and the link itself is just Google’s standard review URL, which is free for every business.
I have multiple locations — does one link cover all of them?
No. A review link is tied to one Place ID, which means one physical location. If you run three locations, generate three links (one per location’s Place ID) so each review lands on the right listing. It takes a minute per location with this tool.
Is it against Google’s rules to ask customers for reviews?
Asking is fine — Google explicitly allows requesting reviews from your customers. What’s not allowed is offering incentives (discounts, freebies) in exchange for reviews, or “review gating” — only asking happy customers while steering unhappy ones away. Ask everyone, make it easy with a direct link, and let the reviews speak for themselves.
